WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David Trone hosted a small business and nonprofit relief webinar with a panel of experts from the U.S. Small Business Administration, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Department of Commerce, and Minority Business Economic Council.

The webinar came following the passage of the newest COVID-19 relief package, which was signed into law by former President Trump. The relief package included an additional $284 billion for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and $20 billion for targeted Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL).

The webinar featured presentations from:

Small Business Administration

  • Antonio Doss, District Director of the Washington Metropolitan Area District Office (WMADO)
  • Stephen Umberger, District Director of the Baltimore District Office

 United States Chamber of Commerce

  • Stephen McAllister, Executive Director of the Eastern Region

Maryland Department of Commerce

  • Elizabeth Carven, Senior Director of Regional Growth & Retention

Minority Business Economic Council

  • Herman Taylor, Managing Director

“Small businesses and nonprofits throughout our state have been devastated by COVID, and we need to get resources in the hands of these hardworking folks so they can make ends meet and keep people on the job. That’s our job.” said Congressman Trone. “Congress needs to work with President Biden to get additional funding to support small businesses not only in Maryland, but across the country. I’d like to thank the panel of experts from the federal and state level for joining me today to help those that have been impacted the most.”

Before becoming a member of Congress, Congressman Trone had experience running both a small business and a large organization with over 10,000 employees. In 2020, he became the only member of the Maryland congressional delegation to be awarded the ‘Spirit of Enterprise’ award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for working across the aisle to support small businesses across the country.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations Committee in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
