Congressman David Trone Named to House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs for 117th Congress

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David Trone announced that he will serve on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs in the 117th Congress. Trone will also serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee and the Joint Economic Committee. This appointment comes one week after Trone announced he was appointed to the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“It’s an honor to work on behalf of the millions of brave Americans who dedicated their lives to serving our country,” said Congressman Trone. “While we can never fully repay them for their service, we can provide them with high-quality health care and job opportunities and address the mental health and addiction crises — it’s the least we can do. I’m confident that we will be able to make serious progress in these areas under Chairman Mark Takano’s leadership.”

As the son of a World War II veteran and a U.S. Army reservist, Congressman Trone has fought on behalf of our nation’s veterans since coming to Congress in 2018. He has worked to guarantee that veterans can receive the health care and job opportunities they deserve and combat the disproportionately high rates of mental health and substance use disorders that impact veterans. Trone has been a strong advocate for the 42,510 veterans in Maryland’s 6th District, including prioritizing partnerships across state lines with the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. Trone has also partnered with Fort Detrick, the largest employer in Frederick County, to help restore USAMRIID and the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center to their full capacities.

The Veterans’ Affairs Committee oversees the health, safety, and security of veterans across the country. Its jurisdiction includes health care, benefits, insurance, pensions, and more. The Committee also conducts oversight of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and related agencies.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
