Congressman Trone’s Statement on Lunar New Year

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released the following statement on the celebration of Lunar New Year:

“I’d like to wish all those who celebrate a happy Lunar New Year. I have a deep respect for the tradition of celebrating the Lunar New Year, and I hope that all those celebrating are able to safely connect with loved ones.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen a disturbing rise in anti-AAPI violence across the country. We must come together, condemn this violence, and root out hate wherever it exists. As a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, I will continue working to address the issues facing the AAPI community in Maryland and across the country.

“May the Year of the Ox be a happy, healthy, and prosperous one.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
