WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a virtual press conference about how Western Marylanders stand to benefit from the newest COVID-19 relief bill, the American Rescue Plan, which the House passed over the weekend and is currently being considered by the Senate. Over the past year, Congressman Trone has heard from hundreds of workers, families, and business owners in Western Maryland struggling with the economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has worked closely with local leaders, even leading a bipartisan request with over 60 local leaders, including Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss, to Congressional leadership urging more state and local funding. The American Rescue Plan includes this funding for state and local government and will help crush the virus, return children safely to the classroom, get vaccines to people, and put people back to work.

WASHINGTON -- As Marylanders continue to face challenges accessing information about COVID vaccine eligibility and how to get the vaccine, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a COVID-19 Vaccine Information Webinar with the health officers from each of the five counties in Maryland’s Sixth District. Nearly 700 people attended the event.
During the webinar, Trone and the health officers discussed the state of vaccine distribution in each county and how individuals can get vaccinated if they are eligible.

WASHINGTON -- Today, U.S. Representative David Trone (D-MD), along with Reps. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM), and David McKinley (R-WV), introduced the bipartisan Opioid Patients’ Right to Know Act to help prevent opioid addiction across the country.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), health care providers dispensed over 153 million opioid prescriptions in 2019, and a recent study estimates that 1% to 4% of individuals who take prescription opioids develop opioid use disorder, putting their lives at risk. The Opioid Patients’ Right to Know Act would create a grant program to incentivize states to require prescribers to discuss the addictive qualities of the drugs with patients and inform them of alternative treatment options before prescribing them for acute pain.

Raskin (All D-Md.), are urging President Joe Biden to approve Maryland’s appeal for an emergency declaration in support of the state’s efforts to improve safety and security across the National Capital Region for the 59th Presidential Inauguration.
The state’s request for an emergency declaration was denied by President Trump in the final days of his administration.

CUMBERLAND — Legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. David Trone (D-Md.) that would provide $9 billion to fund the opioid crisis response over six years passed the House floor unanimously this week.
The State Opioid Response Grant Authorization Act is aimed at giving states a level of certainty that funding will be available long term and not dependent year to year, like it is now.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. David Trone, D-Md., and a coalition of stakeholders from Maryland and Pennsylvania announced Tuesday $6 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for preliminary engineering work on the Pennsylvania portion of U.S. 219, signaling a commitment to beginning construction on the 11-mile corridor connecting Maryland and Pennsylvania within the next 10 years.
Approximately 8 miles of the corridor has yet to be built.
The project will connect U.S. 219 to Interstate 68 in Maryland and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. David Trone, D-Md., announced that his bill, the State Opioid Response Grant Authorization Act (H.R. 2466), unanimously passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
The bipartisan bill must now be passed by the U.S. Senate before heading to the president’s desk for signature.
Trone introduced the State Opioid Response Grant Authorization Act in May 2019 along with Freshmen Working Group on Addiction members Reps. Kelly Armstrong, R-N.D.; Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J.; and Denver Riggleman, R-Va.

COVID fatigue is the feeling of restlessness and exhaustion caused by the coronavirus pandemic. U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams stated that “people are tired and aren’t taking mitigation measures as seriously as before.”

MARYLAND (WDVM) — Seventeen-thousand Marylanders have applied for unemployment benefits just within the last week, according to Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, and that number is only going up. With coronavirus restrictions increasing across the state, many residents are once again facing the possibility of losing their jobs.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the unemployment rate in the state has more than doubled, according to Maryland Congressman David Trone. And as cases spike all over Maryland, state legislatures are looking for ways to continue to assist their constituents as current protections expire.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Rep. David Trone (all D-Md.) announced $50,000 in federal funds to repair and rehabilitate the homes of low-income residents in Garrett County.
The grant will allow the Garrett County Community Action Committee to offer homeowners grants and/or low-interest loans to fund critical home improvement projects, helping ensure that homes meet property and safety standards.

Wednesday morning's cloudy weather prevented a celebratory takeoff to break it in, but the official opening of an extension of one of Frederick Municipal Airport's runways is expected to provide an economic and transportation benefit to the city and county.
The project extend's the airport's Runway 5-23 by 600 feet, to a length of 5,819 feet, which will allow the corporate jets that use the facility to take on more fuel and passengers than they previously had, Airport Manager Rick Johnson said.

When renovations are complete, and when COVID-19 pandemic guidelines permit, Easterseals Adult Day Services will have a new facility in Hagerstown.
The structure at 701 E. First St. once housed physical therapy services. It has been gutted inside and is being renovated for Easterseals, which provides a variety of adult day services for people with disabilities. When finished, it will replace Easterseals' current facility at 101 E. Baltimore St.
