Overdoses throughout the state increased by 18.7%, while Western Maryland experienced a 45.9% increase in overdose deaths.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the newly-appointed member of the House Appropriations Committee said the $619 billion relief package offered by a group of U.S. Senate Republicans wasn’t large enough to meet the needs of struggling families and schools — nor does it contain funding to bolster the finances of state and local governments.

U.S. Rep. David Trone and Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (all D-Md.) announced Tuesday that the grant was awarded through the Appalachian Regional Commission.
According to a news release, “The project will replace 4,300 linear feet of water main in the Decatur Heights neighborhood and provide water service to the Baltimore Street and Cumberland Plaza areas of the city, improving water service to 29 businesses and 111 households.”
