WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, U.S. Representatives David Trone (D-MD) and David B. McKinley, P.E. (R-W.Va.) introduced the Veterans’ Camera Reporting (VCR) Act. This bill would require the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to report to Congress on the use and maintenance of all cameras used for patient safety and law enforcement purposes in VA medical facilities.

WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a virtual press conference about how Western Marylanders stand to benefit from the newest COVID-19 relief bill, the American Rescue Plan, which the House passed over the weekend and is currently being considered by the Senate. Over the past year, Congressman Trone has heard from hundreds of workers, families, and business owners in Western Maryland struggling with the economic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. From advancing the arts and sciences, to serving in our armed forces, to starting millions of small businesses, our country is indebted to the hard work and activism of generations of Latinx Americans. Hispanic Heritage Month felt different this year, though. As our nation struggles to combat the coronavirus, the Latinx community is being left behind.

In pleading guilty to a wide range of federal crimes, the company at the center of the nation’s long-running opioid crisis publicly acknowledged wronging and agreed to a multi-billion-dollar settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice. But Maryland leaders said the agreement fails to adequately cover the harm that was done to Americans over the last 20 years.

CUMBERLAND — The Western Maryland Resource Conservation and Development Council will receive $50,000 in federal funding to conduct a feasibility study on the industrial hemp processing industry in the area, U.S. Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Rep. David Trone said Thursday. “Right now, we need to be looking for ways to revitalize and grow Western Maryland’s agricultural sector, and this funding is critical in that effort,” said Trone. “The federally-funded study will bring the possibility of new jobs in a growing industry, and I look forward to seeing the impact on our community.”

OAKLAND — U.S. Rep. David Trone voiced his support for the 340B Drug Pricing Program that lowers drug costs for rural health care providers during a visit to Garrett Regional Medical Center. The federal 340B program allows eligible health care entities to purchase outpatient drugs from pharmaceutical companies at significantly reduced costs. The health care entities can then roll the savings into patient care. Trone is co-sponsoring a bill that would provide flexibility for the 340B Program for the duration of the pandemic.

WASHINGTON (WDVM) — More than $1.6 million in federal funding will head to Maryland to improve transit safety. U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony G. Brown, Jamie Raskin, and David Trone said the money will go towards upgrading transit bus compartments to improve bus safety and prevent hazards on rail systems across the state.

The effort to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee at Antietam National Battlefield has moved beyond committee review and could get a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. The House Natural Resources Committee approved the measure, House Resolution 970, on Sept. 30 and sent it to the House floor. The resolution would direct the Secretary of the Interior to develop a plan to remove the statue.

We write as baseball fans with a fondness for the game during the 1960s, when it provided a great escape in that turbulent time. In particular, we share an admiration for former St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Curt Flood. He won seven consecutive Gold Glove awards, was a three-time all-star and played an instrumental role in the Cardinals’ winning three National League pennants and two World Series titles.

The bipartisan Family Support Services for Addiction Act was created by Congressmen Dan Meuser of Pennsylvania and David Trone of Maryland.

Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., toured Maryland’s 6th Congressional District as a guest of U.S. Rep. David Trone, D-Md. The 6th District includes Washington County. McMorris Rodgers said the aim is to build relationships among lawmakers to “get results” in Washington, D.C.

CUMBERLAND — U.S. Rep. David Trone (D-Md.) was joined by U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) on Monday for a bipartisan tour of the 6th Congressional District, which included a stop in Cumberland. The tour comes as part of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s American Congressional Exchange Program. Members of different parties spend time in the other’s Congressional district. In October 2019, Rep. Trone visited Rodgers’ district in eastern Washington state, where they met with local leaders and business owners to discuss how they can work together to pass bipartisan solutions in Congress.
