WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman David Trone (D-MD), along with the Bipartisan Opioid Task Force Leaders Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Annie Kuster (D-NH), and Donald Norcross (D-NJ), led a bipartisan coalition of nearly 80 lawmakers to urge Congressional leadership to provide $10 billion in funding for mental health disorder and substance use disorder prevention and treatment.
The funding would include $5 billion for the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant and $5 billion for the Community Mental Health Services Block Grant programs. The request follows previous funding approved by Congress for substance use and mental health disorders, including $4.25 billion in the December 2020 omnibus package that was signed into law.

This is the fifth conversation in a series hosted by Trone called Candid COVID Conversations, which feature periodic discussions covering some of the most pressing issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has previously held conversations on mental health with former Congressman Joe Kennedy III (MA-04), children’s health and wellbeing with Congresswoman Kim Schrier (WA-08), our nation’s health and higher education systems with former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, and nutrition with Chairman Jim McGovern (MA-02).

Trone will also serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee and the Joint Economic Committee. This appointment comes one week after Trone announced he was appointed to the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Steny Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Jamie Raskin (all D-MD) in a letter to Governor Larry Hogan calling for his Administration to reform and improve vaccine distribution by adopting best practices from other states around the country. Maryland has consistently ranked in the bottom tier of states for vaccine distributions due to an ineffectual, fragmented approach. The members maintain a course correction is needed and requested that the Governor answer a series of questions addressing their specific concerns.

WASHINGTON -- Today, U.S. Congressman David Trone and Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (All D-Md.) announced $300,000 in federal funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to the City of Cumberland for the Decatur Street 24th Crosstown Water Main Replacement project.
The project will replace 4,300 linear feet of water main in the Decatur Heights neighborhood and provide water service to the Baltimore Street and Cumberland Plaza areas of the city, improving water service to 29 businesses and 111 households. This project complements previous ARC funding for downtown road construction that will result in a new hotel business and 70 new jobs to the region.
