U.S. Rep. David Trone (D-Md. 6) joined County Council President Tom Hucker at a media briefing Monday to discuss how the Biden administration would work with Montgomery County.
Trone discussed support for President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief proposal, noting that it includes $350 billion in funding for state and local governments, which was not included in the relief package passed in December.

No matter what report officials look at, the number of opioid-related overdoses in Washington County was up significantly last year.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the opioid epidemic on several fronts, said Vicki Sterling, director of behavioral health services for the Washington County Health Department.
Fewer outreach events are held and not as many participate as previously when those events do occur, Sterling said.

(January 26, 2021) - House Democrat David Trone of Maryland and two Republican colleagues introduced bills that would create a task force and a grant program focused on mental health and addiction treatment.
A bill (HR 434) co-sponsored by Rep. Steve Womack, R-Ark., would establish a joint task force meant to prevent mental health crises caused by public health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

WASHINGTON (WDVM) — On President Biden’s first full day in office, Maryland Congressman David Trone introduced two new bipartisan bills.
The bills — titled the “Preventing Mental Health and Substance Use Crises During Emergencies Act” and the “Family Support Services for Addiction Act” — center around mental health and addiction reform, two issues the congressman has been very vocal about in the past. The bills were introduced with Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR) and Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA), respectively.

Ask Ali Zia what he wants to study when he graduates North Hagerstown High School and the junior talks about using science to help society.
But he isn't waiting.
Ali, along with friends and schoolmates, is involved in several projects to help others. At least two focus on assisting Spanish-speaking families and students with accessing information about virtual learning and the federal government.
The 16-year-old coder has helped create websites, written in Spanish, to educate a growing segment of the U.S. population and co-created an app that recently won a 6th Congressional District contest.
