WASHINGTON -- The day after President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn into office in a call for unity, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) announced he would take immediate bipartisan legislative action on two crises facing the country -- the mental health and addiction epidemics currently impacting millions of Americans. Trone announced that today he will introduce two bipartisan bills, the Family Support Services for Addiction Act with Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA) and the Preventing Mental Health and Substance Use Crises During Emergencies Act with Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR). Both pieces of legislation address the alarming increase in Americans suffering from addiction and mental health challenges during the pandemic. Just last week, Trone called for action from leaders when data showed a 111% increase in overdose deaths in parts of Maryland.

Each year, middle and high school students from each congressional district participate in the Congressional App Challenge and create phone applications that showcase their coding skills. The report reveals that overdose deaths in Maryland increased by 12.1% in the first nine months of 2020 compared to 2019, with significant increases in overdose deaths reported in every county in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District.

WASHINGTON -- Today, Representative David Trone along with Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (all D-Md.) announced that the City of Frederick will receive over $1.5 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to strengthen the city’s flood prevention infrastructure. The funding will go towards repairs to Stormwater Pump Station #3, a critical part of Frederick’s storm water management system that diverts water from densely populated areas to a man-made retention lake. The repairs will include the construction of a new building over the existing station to house the motors, electrical gear, controls, and existing generator.
