Congressman David Trone Votes to Impeach President Trump for a Second Time

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released the following statement after one article of impeachment, incitement of insurrection, passed through the House of Representatives:

“The decision to support the impeachment of Donald Trump for a second time was not difficult. I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. No one, especially the President, can encourage sedition and not suffer consequences.

“This bipartisan action of the House should serve as an example to the Senate. I urge the Senate to convict this president sooner rather than later so he cannot tarnish the name of our nation any longer. In a few short days, we will be able to put this sorry mess behind us and focus all of our attention where it should be: on serving the people.”

In December 2019, Trone voted in favor of two articles of impeachment brought against President Trump. On Tuesday, Trone also voted in favor of a resolution to demand Vice President Mike Pence invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office in the final days of his term.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations Committee in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
