Democratic Representative David Trone Visits Republican Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers in Washington State to Advance Bipartisan Priorities

Washington, DC - Today marked the second day that Rep. David Trone (D-MD) visited Washington’s Fifth Congressional District with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) to learn more about how the duo can work together across party lines to make progress on issues affecting their constituents. The trip was arranged by the Bipartisan Policy Center.

On the two-day trip, the duo visited manufacturing sites, met with educators and faculty at Eastern Washington University, toured Gleason Institute of Neurosciences, and visited various members of the business community. They also toured multiple farms as well as the Kalispel Indian Community, where they discussed the effects of the opioid epidemic and the importance of rural broadband.

The two have already worked together in Washington. Trone is a co-sponsor of McMorris Rodgers’ H.R. 3162, the Broadband Data Improvement Act of 2019, which would improve data collection, mapping, and validation to support the effective deployment of broadband services to all areas of the United States.

“I came to Congress to get things done, and the best way to do that is by Democrats and Republicans working together,” said Rep. David Trone. “Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers and I were able to connect on important issues affecting both of our constituents, including creating jobs, expanding rural broadband, and fighting the opioid epidemic. What is clear is that we all share one vision of America, and that’s providing a better quality of life for everyone.”

“Too often in Congress, we get stuck in our political corners, but we must find ways to come together around common goals, common decency, and a common love of our country so we can get results for the people we represent. That starts with building relationships,” said Rep. McMorris Rodgers. “That’s what this visit was all about. I was so happy to show Rep. Trone around Eastern Washington, my home, and to talk about issues that matter to both of us. I’m excited to take these conversations back to the nation’s capital and work together to solve the problems that impact both of our communities.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, where he has continuously fought for bipartisan solutions to some of the district’s most pressing issues. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
