Brown, and Jamie Raskin (all D-Md.) today announced more than $1.17 billion in federal funding for K-12 schools and higher education institutions across Maryland. Funding comes from the bipartisan COVID-19 relief package passed by Congress in late December.

WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman David Trone hosted a small business and nonprofit relief webinar with a panel of experts from the U.S. Small Business Administration, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Department of Commerce, and Minority Business Economic Council. The webinar came following the passage of the newest COVID-19 relief package, which was signed into law by former President Trump. The relief package included an additional $284 billion for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and $20 billion for targeted Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL).

Trone announced that today he will introduce two bipartisan bills, the Family Support Services for Addiction Act with Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA) and the Preventing Mental Health and Substance Use Crises During Emergencies Act with Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR). Both pieces of legislation address the alarming increase in Americans suffering from addiction and mental health challenges during the pandemic. Just last week, Trone called for action from leaders when data showed a 111% increase in overdose deaths in parts of Maryland.

Each year, middle and high school students from each congressional district participate in the Congressional App Challenge and create phone applications that showcase their coding skills. The goal of the competition is to encourage students to learn to code in hopes of pursuing careers in the computer science field.

WASHINGTON -- Today, Congressman David Trone issued the following statement in response to new data from the Maryland Department of Health’s Opioid Operational Command Center reporting astronomical spikes in overdose deaths in the third quarter of 2020. The report reveals that overdose deaths in Maryland increased by 12.1% in the first nine months of 2020 compared to 2019, with significant increases in overdose deaths reported in every county in Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District.
