Trone Holds Agriculture Roundtable in Western Maryland with Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Joe Bartenfelder

Clear Spring, Maryland - Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) held an agriculture roundtable with Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Joe Bartenfelder to discuss the trials and successes of agriculture in Western Maryland at the Ernst Grain and Livestock farm in Washington County.

The roundtable featured representatives from the Maryland Department of Agriculture, Washington County Agricultural Business Development, Garrett County Agriculture Economic Business Development, Maryland Farm Bureau, Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit, and Grow and Fortify. Farmers from across Western Maryland were also invited to attend the event.

“Today I heard directly from farmers in Western Maryland about their priorities and concerns. We talked about the importance of rural broadband, issues facing dairy farmers, and how critical biosecurity is to the future of farming,” said Congressman David Trone. “This meeting with Western Maryland farmers and Secretary Bartenfelder is a great start to a strong federal, state, and local partnership that works together to support the diverse agricultural industry in Maryland.”

“Agriculture is Maryland’s top industry and the heartbeat of our rural communities here in Western Maryland,” said Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Joe Bartenfelder. “It is always helpful to hear directly from our farmers and identify ways we can support the industry at the state and federal levels. I look forward to working with Congressman Trone and our congressional delegation to ensure a bright future for Maryland agriculture.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
