WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman David Trone, (D-Md.) led a letter with members of the Maryland delegation, including Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John P. Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony G. Brown, and Jamie B. Raskin, (all D-Md.) urging Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to publicly release his plan on Maryland COVID-19 testing, which he is required to submit tomorrow to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As the members note in their letter, Maryland is receiving $205 million in federal funding to support testing efforts from the Congressionally-passed Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act. This legislation, signed into law on April 24, 2020, requires all states utilizing the funding to submit a testing plan to the CDC.

Washington—Led by Chairman Eliot L. Engel, all Democratic members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs today called on the Trump Administration to reverse the President’s apparently retaliatory May 15 firing of State Department Inspector General Steve Linick. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo confirmed that he recommended Mr. Linick’s removal while the Office of Inspector General (OIG) was conducting investigations that directly involved the Secretary. In a letter to Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun, the lawmakers also underscored the serious conflict of interest caused by placing Ambassador Stephen Akard in charge of the OIG while he holds another high-ranking position in the Department.

May 26, 2020 (Washington, D.C.) – Members of Congress representing the National Capital Region today wrote to the Secretaries of Defense and the Interior to state their strong opposition to President Trump’s plans to hold a second military parade in Washington D.C. on July 4th. Despite public health and social distancing precautions in the nation’s capital, which has seen one of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks in the country, the Trump Administration is reportedly “continuing to plan” the event.

Raskin, and Steny Hoyer – sent a letter to Maryland Governor Larry Hogan urging him to use race and ethnicity data to develop a plan to address the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color in Maryland. In their letter, the Members also asked the State to lay out their plans to expand testing throughout Maryland, maximizing community-based organizations, such as churches and other members of the faith-based community, as other states have done.

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Trone, Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin, and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, John P. Sarbanes, Anthony G. Brown, and Jamie B. Raskin announced that the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and local transit partners will receive $876 million in federal funding through the CARES Act. Of that total, $41.1 million will be distributed to Montgomery and Prince George’s County local transit providers.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David Trone and U.S Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (all D-Md.) today announced a USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal grant of $343,500 to Allegany County for updates to the North Branch Pump Station outside of Cumberland, Maryland. The efficient and functional operations of this pump station are critical to the local residents and industrial users it serves. These funds will be used for modernization of equipment which has not undergone any major improvements since its original construction over 25 years ago.
