Maryland Pastor Reverend Kenneth Nelson Delivers Invocation to the U.S. House of Representatives with Rep. Trone
Washington, DC – Today, Reverend Kenneth Nelson, Senior Pastor of the Seneca Community Church in Germantown gave the opening prayer before the U.S. House of Representatives upon the recommendation of Rep. David Trone (MD-06).
In the House of Representatives, Members have the ability to recommend a Guest Chaplain to deliver the session’s opening prayer.
In his invocation, Reverend Nelson highlighted the necessity to work together to prevent injustice and bring grace and mercy to our country.
“We, the ancestors, the families, and friends of Seneca Community Church cry out to you to bestow upon this body of representatives the wisdom to address the needs of our time and bring about a transformation of the country and the world to provide grace, mercy, blessing, and love in the name of Jesus,” said Reverend Nelson to the House floor. “May they work together with a liberating spirit to right wrongs, to alleviate poverty, and to prevent illness. May they have an indomitable will to prevent injustice and to release a new provision of blessings for our times.”
“For over a decade, Reverend Nelson has helped his church foster a vibrant and robust community,” said Rep. David Trone. “Reverend Nelson has gone to great lengths to meet the hunger, health, and job development needs of his community both at church and in his capacity as an educator. His passion and leadership have had a resounding impact on the people of Maryland.”
Reverend Nelson has been the Senior Pastor of the Seneca Community Church in Germantown since 2006. He has served as Montgomery College’s Director of Business and Community Outreach for the Department of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, on the International Council of Community Churches Ministers Group, and as a Ministerium President and an Officer at the Montgomery County Black Minister’s Conference. In 2007 and 2010, he was program presenter for annual Montgomery County’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. He is one of the 2018 Montgomery County Human Rights Hall of Fame Inductees.
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
