GAITHERSBURG, MD – Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a telephone town hall with a panel of experts from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Maryland Department of Labor, an immunologist from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and AARP Maryland. Nearly 12,000 people tuned in for the event.
“My number one priority is making sure Marylanders are able to access the benefits passed by Congress in order to address the extraordinary hardship caused by the coronavirus outbreak,” said Congressman Trone. “Today we heard directly from people about questions they had and ideas on how we can do more to support each other during this time. I want to extend a special thanks to the experts who were able to join me and provide valuable information directly to Marylanders.”
The telephone town hall focused on the benefits available to help workers, families, and businesses in Maryland. It comes after the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), the third law passed by Congress to help American workers and families.
On the call, Trone highlighted his 72-page Community Resource Guide to COVID-19 and his Small Business Owner’s Guide to the CARES Act, which are both available on his website.
The town hall featured expert panelists:
- Dr. Andy Pekosz – Immunologist and professor of molecular microbiology and immunology, John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
- Michael Collins – Lender Relations Specialist, Baltimore Regional Office for the SBA
- Andrew Fulginiti – Policy Officer, Maryland Department of Labor
- Michael Harrison – Policy Director, Maryland Department of Labor
- Paul Axelson – Government Relations Liaison, IRS
- Tammy Bresnahan – Associate State Director Advocacy, AARP Maryland
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Before becoming a member of Congress, Congressman Trone had experience running both a small business and a large organization with over 7,000 employees. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
