Trone, Maryland Congressional Delegation Announce More Than $140,000 to Protect Maryland’s Shorelines and Invest in Green Infrastructure 

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David Trone, Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Andy Harris, Anthony G. Brown, and Jamie Raskin (all Md.) today announced $142,758 in federal funding for the Maryland Department of the Environment to protect wetlands and shorelines along the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

“Investing in the conservation and restoration of Maryland’s shorelines will help preserve coastal ecosystems, prevent erosion, and build resilience against the impacts of climate change,” the lawmakers said. “Our delegation remains fully committed to protecting the Chesapeake Bay and we will work tirelessly to secure additional federal resources that safeguard the Bay Watershed for generations to come.”

Funding comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Wetland Program Development Grant program. More information about the program can be found here. 

The lawmakers previously announced more than $3.9 million to enhance Maryland’s environmental infrastructure and support Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts. Recently, the Members also led the passage of the America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act, which includes several provisions to help boost conservation and cleanup efforts across the Bay Watershed.
