Congressman David Trone Talks Jobs, Economic Development, and Affordable Housing During Western Maryland Tour

Hagerstown, Md. — Yesterday, U.S. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) talked about jobs, economic development, and affordable housing during visits to McCleary Hill, the new Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historic Park (NHP) Headquarters, and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County. Congressman Trone spoke with constituents to learn more about the importance of affordable housing, how Maryland’s National Parks contribute to our economic growth, and programs that empower children to excel in school and develop healthy habits.

Trone gives a speech at the grand opening of McCleary Hill.

Trone first visited and spoke at the grand opening of McCleary Hill, a new residential community in Hagerstown. During his speech, the Congressman talked about the benefits of affordable housing, mentioning that it will lead to economic growth, healthier citizens, and improve overall quality of life.

“As we create more jobs and economic development in Washington County, affordable places to live are even more important,” said Congressman Trone. “High-quality affordable housing like McCleary Hill will not only reduce homelessness and boost the economy, but it will also help our friends and neighbors lead happier and healthier lives. As a member of the transportation and housing subcommittee on the House Appropriations Committee, I’m committed to working in Congress to continue creating affordable, accessible housing for all Marylanders.”

Trone then visited the C&O Canal NHP Headquarters and met with Superintendent Tina Cappetta. The pair discussed maintenance of the Park and upcoming projects to improve the facility for visitors. The C&O Canal is a key economic driver for Western Maryland.

Trone visits the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County

Trone rounded out his tour with a visit to the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, a nationally recognized program that provides safe learning environments, healthy relationships with adult professionals, and character development programs for children. Serving more than 1,000 young people across Washington County, the program is tailored towards the needs and interests of the local community.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
