Rep. David Trone Introducing Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Melissa Blubaugh, John Michaels, Rosa Raez, Larry Bram, and Catarina Rivera. You can watch highlights from the webinar here.
WASHINGTON — To raise awareness about the obstacles that those with disabilities face, Representative David Trone (MD-06) released a video today sharing highlights from a roundtable he hosted with Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD-05) to commemorate the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Disability rights experts shared stories about equitable housing, health care, employment opportunities, and the challenges that people of color in the disabled community face. You can watch the highlights here.
The panelists included Melissa Blubaugh from the Maryland Statewide Independent Living Council; John Michaels, the Assistant Director at Resources for Independence; Rosa Raez, the Hispanic Outreach Coordinator at The Arc of Frederick County; Larry Bram, the Senior Vice President of Innovation and Program Development at Easterseals DC MD VA; and Catarina Rivera, a Disability Public Speaker and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Consultant.
“Raising awareness about obstacles that those with disabilities face is the first step toward creating a more equitable America,” said Representative Trone. “The sad truth is that people with disabilities are often trapped in poverty because they have limited job opportunities, lack educational accommodations, and have trouble finding accessible transportation. It’s important to listen to their stories and concerns so that we can develop real solutions.“
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
