Maryland Congressional Delegation Announces More Than $1 Million in American Rescue Plan Funding to Support Cultural Institutions in their Economic Recovery from COVID-19
WASHINGTON – Congressmen David Trone, Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony Brown and Jamie Raskin, (all D-Md.) and U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen today announced $1,048,475 in American Rescue Plan funding to assist educational institutions across Maryland in their COVID-19 economic recovery.
“Our local museums, colleges, and universities play a critical role in showcasing Maryland’s culture, history, and art – serving as an essential education resources in the humanities. But, like many businesses across out state, these organizations were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the lawmakers said. “This American Rescue Plan funding will ensure these important educational organizations and institutions across our state can continue serving and inspiring Marylanders.”
Emergency relief funding comes from the National Endowment for the Humanities, through the Sustaining the Humanities program in the American Rescue Plan, to help cultural and educational organizations offset operational and management costs incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Awards and awardees include:
- $463,555 for Walters Art Museum (Baltimore)
- $200,000 for B&O Railroad Museum (Baltimore)
- $144,307 for St. Mary’s College of Maryland (St. Mary’s City)
- $143,859 for Maryland African American Museum Corporation (Baltimore)
- $49,500 for London Town Foundation, Inc. (Edgewater)
- $47,254 for University of Maryland, Baltimore (Baltimore)
