Congressman David Trone Delivers $1 Billion Increase for WIC, Secures Millions for Community Project Funding, and Defends Access to Reproductive Care in FY24 Government Funding Package
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman David Trone (D-MD) voted to pass the six-bill Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) government funding package in the U.S. House of Representatives, which included $16,116,279 in Community Project Funding for Marylanders, protected mifepristone access, and $1 billion in additional funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), on which over 121,000 breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children in our state rely.
As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Trone fought hard to invest in programs that keep our government open and help Marylanders with the high cost of living, create good-paying jobs, protect women’s rights, honor our commitments to our veterans, and confront the climate crisis.
These 2024 funding bills help working families by:
- Boosting the economy, fighting inflation, and helping working families with the rising cost of living by creating and sustaining tens of thousands of middle-class jobs, and by providing full funding for key lifelines such as food assistance and more affordable housing and homeownership.
- Protecting the environment, fighting climate change, and ensuring America’s energy independence with robust, transformative investments in deploying clean energy technologies in communities across the country, and providing funding for cutting-edge scientific and climate-related research.
- Honoring our veterans by ensuring they receive the care and benefits that they have earned and investing in veterans’ health care, including targeted investments that advance women’s health, mental health, and homelessness assistance.
- Defending Americans’ freedom by blocking attempts to limit women’s access to reproductive health care, including abortion, and by increasing funding for gender-based violence prevention and prosecution programs.
“I was proud to put People Over Politics and vote for a bipartisan government funding package that invests in the programs and services that Marylanders rely on while addressing some of our nation’s biggest challenges, including delivering a $1 billion increase for WIC, securing millions for Community Project Funding, and defending vital access to reproductive care,” Congressman Trone said.
Congressman Trone secured over $16 million in Community Project Funding to deliver direct federal investment in local projects that will help lead to better community-provided resources and spur economic growth and job creation.
Based on current calculations for FY24, Congressman Trone is ranked among the top 10 Democrats in terms of secured federal Community Project Funding in one Congressional District.
“As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, my job is to ensure communities across the country are equipped to serve and provide vital resources to folks in need,” Congressman Trone continued. “After listening to our local leaders about what they need on the ground, I’m proud to deliver a direct line of federal funding from Washington to Maryland’s Main Streets. With this investment into our state, we’re creating more jobs, upgrading deteriorating infrastructure, and expanding essential services. We’re building a brighter future for all Marylanders.”
The following Community Project Funding was secured by Congressman David Trone:
- $1,000,000 for the Carver Center Renovation Project
- $500,000 for the Good Will Fire Company No. 1’s Engine-Tanker Replacement
- $4,616,279 to build a new downtown Frederick youth center

Trone serves on the Appropriations, Budget, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders.
