Congressman Trone Hosts COVID-19 Small Business Resources Webinar with 1,000 Small Businesses
GAITHERSBURG, MD – Today, Rep. David Trone (MD-06) hosted a webinar for small business owners with a panel of experts from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Maryland Department of Labor, and the Maryland Department of Commerce to discuss resources available to small businesses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly 1,000 people tuned in for the event.
“In these scary and uncertain times, business owners not only have to worry about the health and safety of their families, but also how they are going to pay their employees and stay financially afloat,” said Congressman David Trone. “Listening to the concerns of business owners in my district and directing them to the state and federal resources that are available to them is my top priority during this unprecedented time. We must all come together to make it through this. I am grateful to the Small Business Administration, Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz, and the Maryland Department of Labor for sharing their expertise directly with Maryland’s small businesses and nonprofits.”
This webinar comes after the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), which was signed into law on Friday. On Friday, Trone released his Small Business Owner’s Guide to the CARES Act, which included information on how the bill will impact businesses and employees.
An entrepreneur and businessman himself, Trone moderated the call that featured presentations from:
Small Business Administration
- Antonio Doss, District Director, Small Business Administration Washington Metropolitan Area
- Stephen Umberger, District Director, Small Business Administration Baltimore District Office
Maryland Department of Commerce
- Kelly Schulz, Secretary, MD Department of Commerce
Maryland Department of Labor
- Andrew Fulginiti, Policy Officer, Office of the Secretary MD Department of Labor
- Michael Harrison, Policy Director, Office of the Secretary MD Department of Labor

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
