Rep. Trone Issues Response to State of the Union Address

Washington, D.C. – Congressman David Trone, Representative from Maryland’s Sixth District, released the following statement after the State of the Union:

“There is more that unites us than divides us – and I hope that President Trump’s call for unity tonight was made in earnest. We must come together to solve some of our nation’s biggest problems – like the opioid catastrophe that is claiming so many lives and our broken criminal justice system that disproportionately affects minorities and people of color.”

“Above all, we must make sure we are thinking long term and investing in the people of this country. We must build upon the work of the Affordable Care Act, invest in research for cures to deadly diseases, and create an education system that works for everyone.”

“I’m looking forward to making progress on these issues by working with Members on both sides of the aisle to make real change for every day Americans.”

Trone brought Washington County resident Kevin Simmers as his guest to the State of the Union Address. A former Hagerstown narcotics detective, Simmers and his wife Dana founded Brooke’s House – a sober living home for adult women seeking treatment from addiction – after they lost their daughter Brooke to a drug overdose in 2015.
