Trone Holds ‘Don’t Mess with the USPS’ Press Conference in Gaithersburg with Constituents and Community Leaders to Show Support for U.S. Postal Service

GAITHERSBURG, MD- Today, U.S. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a ‘Don’t Mess with the USPS’ press conference at the Gaithersburg Post Office with Sixth District residents and community leaders to show support for the U.S. Postal Service amid recent political attacks.

This press conference comes as the Trump Administration has launched an attempt to systematically dismantle the U.S. Postal Service, with reports of delayed or undelivered mail coming from Maryland’s Sixth District and all across the country.

“I’ve heard from thousands of my constituents about how the delays of the U.S. Postal Service are impacting their daily lives,” said Congressman David Trone. “Seniors and veterans aren’t getting their medications, those who are out of work aren’t receiving their unemployment benefits, and voters aren’t able to make their voices heard in our democracy. This is absolutely unacceptable. The Postmaster General should be removed immediately, and we must make sure that U.S. Post Office operations are restored for the American people ahead of the general election.”

Participants in the press conference included:

  • Victoria Paton, Gaithersburg resident
  • Sudha Chudamani, Gaithersburg resident
  • Rob Wu, Gaithersburg City Councilmember
  • Ryan Spiegel, Gaithersburg City Councilmember
  • Michael Sesma, Gaithersburg City Councilmember
  • Senator Nancy King, D39
  • Delegate Julie Palakovich-Carr, D17
  • Delegate Kirill Reznik, D39
  • Delegate Lesley Lopez, D39
  • Delegate Lily Qi, D15
  • Delegate Jared Solomon, D18
  • Evan Glass, Montgomery County Councilmember, At-Large
  • John Compton, Mayor of Washington Grove, Md.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
