FREDERICK, MD — On Friday, U.S. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) and U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Marty Walsh visited Montgomery College and the Frederick County Public Schools’ Career and Technology Center. The duo also hosted a roundtable on recovery in the workplace with Ideal Option, a clinic providing outpatient medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorder. During the tour, Walsh and Trone spoke with students and teachers, local labor leaders, criminal justice experts, and addiction specialists.

“As a businessman, I know how important it is to treat workers with respect and to value the dignity of work,” said Congressman Trone. “I had a great time showing Secretary Walsh the best that Maryland has to offer. We need to increase our focus on job training programs and, more importantly, we need to start valuing the mental health and well-being of all workers.”

For the roundtable on recovery in the workplace, the Congressman and Secretary were joined by:

  • Alderman Ben MacShane, City of Frederick
  • Micha Hagans, Program Manager, Resilient Frederick County (RFC), Frederick County Workforce Services
  • Sha’rron Snowden, Program Director, Genesis Treatment Services
  • Howie Newton, Community Outreach Coordinator, Ideal Option
  • Charlene Busman MS, RN, ANP-BC, MAT Provider, Ideal Option
  • Dr. Barbara Brookmyer, Health Officer, Frederick County Health Department
  • Kim Sariano, Frederick County Program Manager, Potomac Case Management

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
