Maryland Delegation Announces $600,000 to Enhance Child Safety Across the State
WASHINGTON – U .S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen David Trone, Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony G. Brown, Andy Harris, M.D. and Jamie Raskin (all Md.) today announced $599,029 in federal funding to the Maryland State Police and Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office to support safety and protection for children across the state of Maryland through the Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs.
“Our children are our future, and their safety is each and every parents’ priority,” the lawmakers said. “This funding will ensure that our communities have the resources they need to protect our children from harm. Whether it’s a task force responding to online threats to our children or a therapy program, federal Team Maryland is committed to securing funding to create a safer environment for our children.”
The Maryland State Police will receive $422,166 for the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC will consist of state and local law enforcement task forces dedicated to monitoring and responding to online enticement of children by sexual predators, child exploitation and child obscenity and pornography cases.
Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office will receive $176,863 for the Juvenile Justice Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Project to decrease expulsions of juveniles from Anne Arundel County schools through counseling and mentorship, behavioral support services, mental health evaluations and trauma therapy.
