WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman David Trone hosted a “Trone Talk” on consumer protection with Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh just in time for the holiday season. The pair answered questions directly from Marylanders and focused on best practices to avoid scams or fraud, including issues related to fake charities, secure methods of payment, promotional emails, and credit cards.

“The last thing anyone wants is to fall victim to fraud, especially during the holiday season,” said Congressman Trone. “My staff and I have heard some real horror stories about folks who have been scammed. We’ve been able to help some people recover their money, but it can be a long process, and it’s not guaranteed. That’s why it’s important that we all stay vigilant in order to keep our information secure. I thank Attorney General Frosh for joining me today to bring some more attention to this issue.”

“Scammers will use any tactic and any tool to steal your money and/or personal information.  These thieves use social media in particular but apps, email, phone calls, and texts are also favorite tools used by scammers,” said Attorney General Frosh. “Learning about common scams, being mindful of their tactics, and safeguarding your personal and financial information can help you avoid becoming a victim.”
