WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released a recorded discussion with Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) focused on the ongoing developments from the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol. During the conversation, the two discussed the facts surrounding the January 6th attack, former President Donald Trump’s involvement, and the Republican National Committee’s unfounded assertion that the insurrection was “legitimate political discourse.”

“As someone in the House Chamber that day, I will remember the events of January 6th for the rest of my life. I never thought I’d fear for my safety, the lives of my staff, friends, and fellow Members of Congress from a mob of angry Americans,” said Congressman David Trone. “Now, my focus is on the facts rather than the politics of the insurrection. We cannot rewrite history and we will not let our Republican colleagues do so. This attack was far from ‘legitimate political discourse,’ it was an insurrection, a coup attempt, and an attempt to dismantle American democracy as we know it.”
“We can debate a lot of things but we should not be putting up for grabs whether or not people can engage in a violent attack on the government to overturn the certified results of an election,” said Congressman Jamie Raskin. “That’s the main function that a political party’s got to play when an election is over. If you win, great, celebrate. If you lose, accept it, you figure out what you did wrong, and you go on.”
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
