Trone Celebrates National Small Business Week with Local Business Owners

HAGERSTOWN, MD — Last week, Congressman David Trone visited Frederick, Montgomery, and Washington Counties to meet with local business owners, health care professionals, and a coalition of community leaders. Trone met with small business owners across Washington County in celebration of National Small Business Week, including Carlos Davis, owner of the In the Cuts Barber Shop; JoVann Carter, owner of the Dog House; and Mark Wilks, owner of Carmen’s Corner Store, who was celebrating the store’s third anniversary.

“Small businesses are essential to Maryland’s economy, and our local businesses have been the driving force behind our economic recovery,” said Congressman Trone. “We ought to provide small business owners the resources they need to thrive in our communities. As a business owner, I know how difficult it can be, but I’m committed to putting our small businesses and their employees first — we owe it to them.”

On Thursday, Trone began his district tour at Easterseals’ new Adult Day Services Center in Hagerstown, where he met with staff, health professionals, and patients. He then visited CommuniCare, one of the nation’s largest post-acute care providers, where he led a town hall with employees. On Friday, Trone met with Executive Director Kris Fair and volunteers of the Frederick Center, a new community center that provides Frederick’s LGBTQ+ community with mental and physical health resources.

Trone also met with community leaders and municipal officials from across the district, including Middletown Burgess John Miller, Thurmont Mayor John Kinniard, and Burkettsville Mayor Deborah Burgoyne. He later attended a Friday prayer with the Islamic Society of Frederick, where he spoke to attendees before sitting down with leadership to discuss the priorities of Frederick’s Muslim community.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
