News From the District: Congressman Trone Visits Local Care Providers and Businesses During Hagerstown Tour

Rep. Trone meets with students at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics in Hagerstown. Trone requested $750,000 to expand the Institute’s workforce development facility, which was passed by the House in July.

HAGERSTOWN, MD — This week, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) visited Hagerstown to learn more about Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Community Project Funding (CPF) requests, discuss health care access, and support local manufacturing.

On Tuesday, Trone met with employees at Hagerstown Performance Pipe, which is one of the largest producers of polyethylene piping products in North America and employs over 60 people in Hagerstown. Later in the week, Trone visited the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics to learn more about its FY23 CPF request that would fund the construction of a new 10,000-square-foot workforce development facility that will provide additional workshop and instructional space to accommodate their growing program for Aviation Maintenance Technicians.

Trone wrapped up his tour by hosting a town hall with residents at Cadia Healthcare Hagerstown, a senior nursing and rehabilitation center, where he discussed his work to lower health care costs and support crucial medical research. In August, Trone voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which will allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and cap out-of-pocket drug and insulin costs. On September 12, Trone will be hosting a Seniors Workshop and Health Fair with Congressman John Larson (CT-01) in Frederick to further connect seniors on important care and benefits resources.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is developing solutions with local leaders that improve lives right here in Maryland’s Sixth District,” said Congressman David Trone. “Ensuring Marylanders can access high-quality, affordable mental and physical health care is one of my main priorities in Congress. I’ll keep fighting to secure crucial federal funding to do just that.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
