Trone Applauds Record Job Growth and Long-Term Vision for the Country During President Biden’s Visit to Hagerstown

Rep. Trone delivers remarks about once-in-a-generation workforce investments at Volvo Group Powertrain Operations

HAGERSTOWN, MD — Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) joined President Biden at the Volvo Group Powertrain Operations in Hagerstown, Maryland, to showcase our country’s economic growth and share their vision for our country.

During the event, Congressman Trone spoke about four transformative laws that will change the course of this country for the better, including the CHIPS and Science Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act – all of which invest in America’s workforce, health care, and its future.

His prepared remarks from the event are below:

“We are here today to celebrate the 10 million jobs created – more jobs at this point than any other President in history – but, more importantly, we are here to celebrate the millions more that will be created. President Biden gets stuff done. He puts people over politics. As we stand here today, we tell the American people: this is just the beginning.

“Across America, the outcomes of this legislation are not yet fully visible – not yet visible, so that’s the disconnect – but as a businessman, I can tell you: it’s a done deal.

“In the months and years ahead, the CHIPS and Science Act will invest $280 billion to create over a million jobs for American workers and bring back manufacturing to our towns.

“In the months and years ahead, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will fix our nation’s roads and bridges, connect millions of Americans to affordable, high-speed broadband, and create 15 million jobs over the next 10 years. And we’re confident Maryland’s Department of Transportation will fix I-81 right here in Washington County.

“In the months and years ahead, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will invest $11 billion in mental health – the largest investment in mental health in our history, including $2 billion to deliver mental health care to our youth.

“In the months and years ahead, the Inflation Reduction Act will provide a shot in the arm to America’s clean energy workforce, our energy independence, our health care, and our future.

Including allowing Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices and establishing a $2,000/year cap on prescription costs for our Seniors.

“Without a doubt, this Administration has delivered on its promise to the American people,

with a vision for a better America for our children and grandchildren. We see it in front of us today, we will see it even more tomorrow, and we will benefit from it for generations to come.

“President Biden has led our country with compassion – he’s done more for those struggling with addiction and mental health than any President before him. He’s led with civility to bring America’s core values back to the forefront: freedom, unity, and respect for one’s neighbor. And he’s led with competence to pass effective, bipartisan policies into law that will benefit every American.

“Demonstrating compassion, civility, and competence, that’s President Biden: always putting People Over Politics. Thank you.”
