Congressman David Trone Releases Statement on Assignment to the Appropriations and Joint Economic Committee for the 118th Congress

This week, Congressman David Trone released the following statement regarding his new committee assignments for the 118th Congress:

“In the months and years ahead, I pledge to continue supporting American workers, bolstering infrastructure development, and creating millions of good-paying jobs – all while ensuring that Marylanders get their fair share of federal support. Holding the power of the purse is not a task I take lightly, and I will continue working across the aisle to get the job done and build a brighter tomorrow for our country.

“For those reasons, I’m honored to be re-appointed to serve on the House Committee on Appropriations for another term. As a businessman, I know the crucial funding that the Appropriations Committee delivers to towns and cities across the country is instrumental to funding projects that fight our country’s addiction epidemic, improve our mental health, expand our economic security, strengthen our nation’s competitiveness, and make life easier for hardworking Americans.

“As both foreign and domestic national security threats arise, I take my new appointment to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security with a sense of great responsibility. I am particularly committed to focusing on the opioid crisis and its impact on our national security. We need to support our law enforcement partners and give them the necessary tools to execute the duties of their agencies, which includes combating the international trafficking of illicit fentanyl.

“I’m also glad to continue my work on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies. As co-founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Second Chance Task Force, I will continue fighting to expand opportunities for returning citizens, as well as increase federal funding for medical research and ensure our nation’s economy continues to work for the American people.

“Once again, I am glad to continue as a member of the Joint Economic Committee. Working with my Democratic and Republican colleagues in both the House and the Senate, I will continue to advise on matters related to our national, state, and local economies. In a time when the economy is potentially on a trajectory of significant growth, I will use my background in business to develop stronger strategies to benefit our nation’s workers and businesses in the long term.”
