Frederick, Md (KM) Local elected officials and other citizens were on hand Thursday as 6th District Representative David Trone held a ribbon cutting on his Frederick office. Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor welcomed the new office. “We’re honored to have Congressman Trone place his Congressional District office in our community,” O’Connor said. “We’re the second largest city in Maryland. That makes us the largest city in the 6th District.”

County Executive Jessica Fitzwater called Trone a reliable partner. “During the pandemic where all of us at all levels of government were getting inquiries about unemployment insurance or other needs, we always knew that we could call the Congressman’s office and their staff are ready to help, no matter what the need, no matter how complicated the navigation was of the different services. So being able to rely on that has been critically important, “she said.

In his comments, Torne said serving his constituents is an important part of his job as a legislator. “In this last two-year term, 31,000 constituent letters, e-mails and calls all answered within 72 hours. That’s our rule; 72 hours,” he said.

As a result, Trone says his staff was able to recover $9-million in savings for constituents, and $4.4 million in unemployment benefits. “We did so many unemployment cases, everybody sent them to us because we went to Tiffany, the Secretary of Labor, and said ‘I need help and I’m not getting it,’”: he said. “So they assigned folks to help us, just to help us. So we streamlined it all through and they took care of our people.”

“Tiffany” is Tiffany Robinson, the former Secretary of Labor for Maryland.

Trone urged anyone who is having problems with unemployment benefits, Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits or other issues to contact his office. “So bring those problems to us. We want to turn them into successes. We’ll do our best. We’re not magic, but we can do pretty dagon good And we’ll work harder than the other offices because we got the right people,” he said.

Representative Trone’s Frederick office is located in the Patrick Center at 30 West Patrick Street, Suite 505. The telephone number is 301-926-0300.
