Trone, Cardin, Van Hollen Deliver $187,500 in Community Project Funding to Renovate Allegany College of Maryland Community Theatre

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Today, Congressman David Trone, Senator Ben Cardin, and Senator Chris Van Hollen (all D-Md.) announced the delivery of $187,500 in Community Project Funding to renovate the Allegany College of Maryland’s community theatre. The project’s federal funding was requested by the lawmakers in 2021, approved through the Fiscal Year 2022 federal funding package, and now distributed to the Allegany College of Maryland.

“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, it’s exciting to see that the Community Project Funding we fought to include in the FY22 government funding package is now officially delivered to Western Maryland,” said Congressman Trone. “By revamping this community theatre, we are increasing educational and workforce training opportunities for everyone in Allegany County. This project is about more than rebuilding a theatre; it’s about increasing economic opportunities for the next generation.”

“Every community in Maryland has a story to tell. Renovating this theatre will provide an economic boost and cultural hub for Allegany County residents to explore their interests, passions and career opportunities within the comfort of their community,” said Senator Cardin. “Team Maryland continues to collaborate in an unprecedented way to deliver federal resources that directly support local needs and priorities.”

“These federal dollars will support much-needed renovations to a community landmark that both brings people together and spurs local economic opportunity. That’s why we fought to secure this investment for Allegany College – and we’ll keep working to deliver federal resources to important projects throughout Western Maryland and our state,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The funding aims to bring the theatre — which has not received updates to its lighting or rigging since it was established in the early 1970’s — up to proper codes and standards. With this investment, the theatre can increase community patron usage and add state-of-the-art equipment to better support the college’s multimedia technology program.
