Congressman David Trone Announces Over $43 Million In Latest Emergency Connectivity Funding For Schools and Libraries

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman David Trone (D-MD) announced that $43,428,936 in federal funding from the Emergency Connectivity Fund Program is on its way to schools and libraries across Maryland’s Sixth District. The Emergency Connectivity Fund Program, created by the Trone-backed American Rescue Plan, aims to close the Homework Gap for students who lack reliable broadband and computer access. This latest round of funding supports applicants from the third application window, benefiting the students and schools in Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, and Garrett Counties. 

“In Congress, my number one job is to ensure all my constituents have the resources needed to thrive, and access to education is no exception. As the proud son of a public school teacher, I proudly helped pass the American Rescue Plan so our students can get online and succeed in grade-level school curriculums,” said Congressman Trone. “The Emergency Connectivity Funding breaks down learning barriers that many lower-income students face, giving our nation’s future leaders the high-quality education they deserve.“

The following allocations show “Window 3” funding for schools and libraries in Maryland’s Sixth District: 

• $1,165,644 for the Frederick County Public School District
• $40,440 for the Frederick County Public Libraries
• $457,506 for the Garrett County Public School District
• $22,784,400 for the Montgomery County Public Libraries
• $13,660,946 for the Montgomery County Public School District
• $5,320,000 for the Washington County Public School District

The following allocated show previously-allocated “Window 1” and “Window 2” total funding for schools and libraries in Maryland’s Sixth District:

• $88,223 for the Ivymount School in Rockville
• $5,022,279 for the Frederick County Public School District 
• $20,890 for Gaithersburg Community Support Services
• $472,745 for the Garrett County Public School District
• $14,038 for Head Start of Washington County in Hagerstown
• $15,975,170 for the Montgomery County Public Libraries 
• $391,680 for the Washington County Public School District
• $101,034 for the YMCA of Frederick County 

Launched in 2021, the Emergency Connectivity Fund Program supports off-campus learning, such as nightly homework and summer online learning programs, to ensure students have the necessary support to keep up with their education. To date, the funding has provided support to approximately 18 million students, 11,100 schools, 1,050 libraries, 120 consortia, and provided approximately 13 million connected devices and over 8 million broadband connections across the country, and has distributed $145,091,619 in federal funding to Maryland alone.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties.
