Joint Economic Committee Member Rep. David Trone Releases Statement on Bipartisan, Bicameral Tax Agreement

Congressman David Trone (D-MD), a member of the Joint Economic Committee, released the following statement on the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024:

“I commend House and Senate leadership for reaching a critical tax agreement to better support our local economies and allow hardworking Americans to provide for their families.

“After the expanded Child Tax Credit expired at the end of 2021, the poverty rate for children more than doubled the next year. Meanwhile, rent and housing costs have continued to increase due to a worsening shortage of affordable housing across the country.

“The inclusion of the expanded Child Tax Credit and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit in this agreement is a lifeline for struggling families and will prove instrumental in building stronger pathways to equitable economic prosperity and home ownership for generations to come.

“While I remain committed to fighting for further expansions of these programs in Congress, I urge my colleagues to pass this legislation into law and deliver a much-needed helping hand to the American people as soon as possible.”
