Trone Launches Reproductive Rights Resource to Combat Nationwide Attacks on Reproductive Freedoms

Last June, Rep. Trone attended the grand opening of the Women’s Health Center, which moved its abortion services from West Virginia to Cumberland, Maryland due to restrictive access laws

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman David Trone (D-MD), Member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, launched a new page on his website to provide Marylanders and those seeking care in Maryland with reproductive rights resources amid unprecedented attacks on abortion access nationwide. Since the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, twenty-one states have banned abortion or restricted the procedure earlier in pregnancy than the standard set by Roe v. Wade.

Today, nearly one in five patients now travel out of state for abortion care. The webpage explains how Maryland has taken steps to safeguard abortion rights but acknowledges that some in Congress are fighting to establish a federal ban and discusses the work Trone is doing in the House to prevent a potential federal ban from stripping these rights from Marylanders. Most importantly, the webpage provides up-to-date information about the rights and resources available to folks seeking reproductive care on the national, state, and local levels. “Now more than ever before, it’s critical that Marylanders know their reproductive rights to ensure that abortion services remain accessible to themselves and their loved ones,” said Congressman David Trone. “While I’m proud that Maryland is a safe haven state, I know that the threat of a national ban is real and we must act urgently to defend abortion care on the federal level. That’s why I’ve voted for and support the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade. With this new webpage, Marylanders can equip themselves with the tools needed to ensure their rights are protected.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Budget, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders.
