Appropriator Rep. David Trone Releases Statement on POTUS’ Visit to Baltimore

Congressman David Trone (D-MD) released the following statement regarding President Joe Biden’s visit to Baltimore today.

“President Joe Biden said he would move heaven and earth to reopen the Port of Baltimore and rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge. And we will.

“When Congress returns to Washington next week, I will continue the fight to ensure Baltimore has what it needs to take care of its workers and build back stronger than ever.

“In the short term, we intend to rely on existing funding reserves to provide immediate relief as Congress and the Biden-Harris administration chart a course to fund long-term efforts.

“I strongly urge my Congressional colleagues to rise to the challenges ahead and help fund this effort because this isn’t a Maryland problem, it’s an American one. The Port of Baltimore is a pillar of our nation’s economy: supporting nearly 150,000 jobs, importing more vehicles than any other port, and contributing over $15 million to the economy every day.

“I am extremely grateful to the Biden-Harris administration, Department of Transportation, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, and others that came to Baltimore during its hour of need and have committed to seeing the job through. The reopening of the Port of Baltimore won’t be quick or easy, but we have the right team to get it done.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Budget, and Joint Economic Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders.
