Congressman David Trone Calls for Postmaster General to be Removed
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration’s recent assault on the U.S. Postal Service:
“President Trump and Postmaster General DeJoy’s efforts to dismantle the U.S. Postal Service are an attempt to undermine a fundamental institution in our democracy. These actions are unacceptable, and the Postmaster General should be removed immediately.
“The U.S. Postal Service is a constitutionally-guaranteed service that Americans have relied on since our country’s very foundation. But recent actions to use the USPS as a pawn in a political game have led millions of Americans to suffer. Seniors are going without the medication they need to stay healthy. Workers are going without their paychecks. Voters are unable to make their voices heard in our democracy. And all of this is happening in the middle of a global health crisis and economic recession.
“These outrageous attacks are putting American lives, businesses, and our democracy at stake. People in Maryland and across the country are demanding action — and we cannot sit back and allow this to continue. This week the House will pass the Delivering for America Act to reverse this Administration’s sabotage of the Postal Service, and we will hear directly from the Postmaster General about these senseless and harmful actions.
“We need to act quickly to restore the U.S Postal Service to its full capacity to ensure that all Americans receive their mail, medication, and benefits on-time. Our democracy depends on it.”
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
