Over 6,000 People Join Congressman David Trone’s Telephone Town Hall with ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero on Justice and Equality

GAITHERSBURG, MD – Yesterday, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a telephone town hall with American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Executive Director Anthony Romero on the ongoing fight for justice and equality in the United States. 6,155 people attended the event.
The telephone town hall celebrated the civil rights victories won within the last several years and defined what the road ahead looks like in the fight for justice and equality. It comes after the House of Representatives passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act which included sweeping police reforms to help protect communities and save lives.
“When the world lost Congressman John Lewis, we lost a civil rights giant and a tireless advocate for justice. We must honor his legacy and carry on the fight for equality,” said Congressman David Trone. “Today’s conversation allowed us to understand what work is left to be done in order to create a better future. I’d like to thank ACLU’S Executive Director Anthony Romero for joining me for this important discussion.”
Trone has worked with the ACLU for over 20 years on reforming the criminal justice system. In Congress, he has introduced legislation to create a national commission to examine injustices in the criminal justice system, repeal the ban on Pell Grants for incarcerated students and to incentivize states to ban the box on private employee applications. Trone has also led efforts to call on the Federal Bureau of Prisons to release coronavirus response plans, and he successfully helped change a U.S. Department of Treasury rule that restricted formerly incarcerated business owners from accessing PPP funds by Congress.
