Rep. David Trone Announces Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Hood College to Receive Thousands in Grant Funding From National Endowment for the Humanities
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) announced that the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and Hood College will receive thousands in grant funding through the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to help support critical preservation and development programs at the two organizations.
The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is set to receive nearly $10,000 for the preservation of their humanities collections, and Hood College will receive $144,000 to support the creation of professional development camps for school teachers.
“The arts and humanities help bring our communities together, and these institutions and programs have faced significant financial challenges during this pandemic,” said Congressman David Trone. “I’ve been working directly with the NEH to ensure that the important work by organizations like the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and Hood College in Maryland’s 6th District get the funding they need in order to continue important programming through this global pandemic and beyond.”
The National Endowment for the Humanities is an independent agency working to strengthen humanities programs. Established in 1965, the National Endowment for the Humanities serves as one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States. NEH grants are often awarded to museums, archives, libraries, colleges, and other cultural institutions.
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
