Community health centers in Hagerstown and Hancock are among 17 Maryland facilities receiving a total of $15.6 million in federal funds to respond to the coronavirus.

The Walnut Street Community Health Center Inc. in Hagerstown will receive $638,360, according to a news release.

The Tri-State Community Health Center in Hancock will receive $819,410.

The funding was announced Wednesday in a news release issued on behalf of the full Maryland congressional delegation, including U.S. Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer, C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, John P. Sarbanes, Andy Harris, Anthony G. Brown, Jamie B. Raskin and David Trone.

The awards come through the CARES Act, which also provided $48 million to Maryland local governments as announced by the delegation last week.

On Monday, the delegation separately announced new federal funding for the Maryland health system through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bringing the total through that source to $17.1 million. That funding comes through the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act.
