Rep. David Trone Hosts Seniors Workshop and Resource Fair with Over 160 People and Nearly 20 Service Organizations in Hagerstown
Hagerstown, MD – Today, Rep. David Trone (MD-06) hosted a workshop and resource fair with a panel of experts on the topic of seniors. There were over 160 people and 19 organizations in attendance at the public event hosted at the Washington County Free Library in Hagerstown.
The workshop featured opening remarks from Amy Olack, the CEO of the Washington County Commission on Aging, as well as a conversation with an expert panel, moderated by Rep. Trone.
The expert panel included:
- Dr. Paul Quesenberry, Program Director of the Meritus Family Medicine Residency Program
- Bradley Tritsch, the COO of the Washington County Commission on Aging
- Vicki Sterling, Program Director of the Washington County Health Department Division of Behavioral Health Services
“Throughout my first year in office I listened to and fought for older Americans when they told me we need to do more to strengthen Social Security and Medicare and protect senior workers from discrimination,” said Rep. David Trone. “We’ve made great strides in this first year by passing the Dignity in Aging Act and the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act. Today we heard about how we can do more to prioritize issues impacting older Americans in our community.”
“This is a great opportunity for seniors and caregivers to make their needs known and to identity gaps in services within Washington County that impacts their quality of life,” said Amy Olack, CEO of the Washington County Commission on Aging. “Speak up, and speak out so that Congressman Trone can be the voice for Washington County seniors! Education and access to up-to-date information from a variety of vendors will be available.”
The workshop comes after the House of Representatives passed the Dignity in Aging Act, which renewed the Older Americans Act and included two provisions authored by Rep. Trone aimed at reducing social isolation among seniors and expanding access to care for those living with younger-onset Alzheimer’s. The House also recently passed the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act, which restores workplace protections for older workers.
This is Trone’s second workshop on the topic of seniors. In March, he held a seniors workshop and resource fair in Montgomery County.
In addition to the panel discussion, there were 19 organizations in attendance focused on seniors. The organizations included: AARP – Association of American Retired Persons, AHEC West, Alzheimer’s Association, Family Healthcare of Hagerstown, Hagerstown Police Department, Maryland Commission on Caregiving, Maryland Department of Human Services – Office of Adult Services, Maryland Insurance Administration, Maryland Legal Aid, Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, Meritus Medical Center, Social Security Administration, Taxpayer Advocate Service, U.S. Census Bureau, Washington County Commission on Aging, Washington County Community Action Council, Washington County Department of Social Services – Adult Services, Washington County Health Department, Washington Goes Purple
Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
