Trone: President Should Prioritize Opioid Epidemic In SOTU Address

Washington, DC – In advance of tomorrow’s State of the Union Address, Rep. David Trone (MD-06) said he hopes the President focuses on ending the opioid crisis:

“We’re losing over 67,000 people a year to drug overdoses, and there is great bipartisan support in Congress to put an end to this epidemic,” said Rep. David Trone, founder of the Freshmen Working Group on Addiction in Congress. “We need more funding to stop this crisis, and I hope the President recognizes the urgent need to come together on this issue.”

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland. In Congress, he founded the Freshmen Working Group on Addiction, a bipartisan group of 64 freshmen lawmakers dedicated to ending the addiction epidemic in the country. Trone has held multiple workshops about the crisis in Maryland and in December announced that his bill, which would provide $1.5 billion for five years to State Opioid Response Grants, passed through the House of Representatives.
