Trone: “I swore an oath to protect our Constitution, and I intend to do that.”

Washington, DC –  Representative David Trone (MD-06) released the statement below regarding the impeachment inquiry of President Trump:

“I swore an oath to protect our Constitution, and I intend to do that. 

“The President’s actions with respect to Ukraine are reprehensible: withholding foreign aid approved by Congress in order to pressure a foreign country to dig up dirt on his political rival is the definition of corruption. Withholding information about those conversations from Congress is the definition of a cover up. His actions are arrogant and lawless. They undermine our democracy.

“The President has abused the office of the presidency and broken our public trust. Because of this, I support the Speaker’s decision to open an impeachment inquiry and do everything in our power to uncover the truth and save our democracy. ”
