Reps. David Trone, Anthony Brown, and Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott Hold Roundtable with Labor Leaders and Tour Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 5 Training Facility in Maryland

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative David Trone (D-MD), along with Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Rep. Anthony Brown (D-MD), toured the Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 5 Training Facility in Lanham, MD with Jim Killeen, Business Manager for Local 5. Following the tour, the group hosted a roundtable with Maryland labor leaders to discuss issues pertinent to their sectors.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to listen and discuss the pressing issues facing our brothers and sisters in labor,” said Congressman David Trone, the only Maryland Member on the Education and Labor Committee. “This week, our Democratic Majority will pass the first minimum wage increase in 12 years, and in the months to come we will continue to pass legislation that honors workers. I want to thank Chairman Bobby Scott for bringing his decades of leadership to Maryland today. I look forward to continuing to work with the Chairman and Labor leaders to fight for workers across Maryland.”

“Our economy is at its strongest when the rights of working Americans are expanded, and the American people have access to the skills and training required to have a good paying job,” said Congressman Anthony G. Brown. “I’m pleased to join my friends and colleagues Chairman Bobby Scott and Congressman David Trone for this opportunity to listen to Maryland’s labor leaders, and learn more about how we can ensure working Americans have a strong position at the negotiating table.”

The roundtable was with over 40 leading members of labor from all across the Maryland and DC area, including Donna Edwards, President of the Maryland/DC AFL-CIO, Dr. Everett Kelly, National Secretary-Treasurer of AFGE, Terry Cavanagh, Executive Director of the SEIU Maryland/DC State Council, and Larry Wolfe, President of the Western Maryland Building Trades Council, among others.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Education and Labor, Foreign Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees, where he is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the opioid epidemic, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
