Rep. Trone Announces Kevin Simmers as Guest to State of the Union

Hagerstown, MD – Today, Congressman David Trone, Representative for Maryland’s 6th District, announced that Kevin Simmers would be his guest to the State of the Union Address. Trone made the announcement at the grand opening of Brooke’s House, a sober living home for adult women seeking treatment in Western Maryland.

A former Hagerstown narcotics detective, Simmers and his wife Dana founded Brooke’s House after they lost their daughter Brooke to a drug overdose in 2015.

“Kevin Simmers has faced the brutal reality of addiction in our country,” said Congressman David Trone. “He has taken the tragedy of losing his daughter and turned that into action. The strength and perseverance that Kevin and his wife Dana have shown by building this wonderful facility is truly inspiring. I am honored he will join me at the State of the Union.”

After nearly four years, Brooke’s House opened its doors for the first time today at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Congressman Trone was at the ribbon cutting of the event and spoke about his own nephew Ian, who died of a fentanyl overdose at the age of 24.

“Literally hundreds of thousands of Brookes and Ians are being claimed by this epidemic.” said Trone. “It’s not just a tragedy of Hagerstown or Maryland. This is the most important tragedy facing America today.”

Brooke’s House is the only treatment center in Western Maryland open to women seeking treatment from addiction.
