WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) released a new video that follows him on his American Rescue Plan Tour through Frederick and Washington Counties in Maryland where he talked with people who would directly benefit from the widely popular legislation that President Biden signed into law last month.

“The American Rescue Plan is a game-changer for Marylanders struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Congressman Trone. “Not only will this legislation help us build back from COVID, but it will ensure that children and working families are in a better place than when this pandemic began. I’ll continue working alongside the Biden Administration to raise awareness about the relief available through this once-in-a-generation bill.”

The American Rescue Plan and You Digital Event

Since the legislation was signed into law, Trone has held events touting how the bill will impact Marylanders. Last week, Trone hosted a digital event — The American Rescue Plan and You Webinar — featuring Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) and local experts to share resources available to Marylanders through the sweeping legislation. Guests included representatives from:

  • Maryland Hunger Solutions,
  • Maryland Area Health Education Center (AHEC) West,
  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS),
  • Maryland Department of Labor, and
  • Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

How the American Rescue Plan will save lives and livelihoods:

Put Vaccines in Arms: The plan will mount a national vaccination program that includes setting up community vaccination sites nationwide and addressing disparities facing communities of color. It will also take complementary measures to combat the virus, including scaling up testing and tracing, addressing shortages of personal protective equipment and other critical supplies, investing in high-quality treatments and addressing health care disparities.

Put Children Safely Back in School: The plan will make a nearly $130 billion investment in school re-opening and making up for lost learning.

Put Money in People’s Pockets: The plan finishes the job on the President’s promise to provide $2,000 in direct assistance to households across America with checks of $1,400 per person, following the $600 down payment enacted in December.  The plan will also provide direct housing assistance, nutrition assistance for 40 million Americans, expand access to safe and reliable child care and affordable health care, extend unemployment insurance so that more than 20 million American workers can pay their bills and supporting 27 million children with an expanded Child Tax Credit and more than 17 million low-wage workers through an improved Earned Income Tax Credit.

Put People Back In Jobs: The plan will provide crucial support for the hardest-hit small businesses with EIDL grants, expanded PPP eligibility, and more. These programs will especially target those businesses owned by entrepreneurs from racial and ethnic backgrounds that have experienced systemic discrimination. The plan also provides crucial resources to protect the jobs of first responders, frontline public health workers, teachers, transit workers and other essential workers that all Americans depend on.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
