GAITHERSBURG, MD – Yesterday, U.S. Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a virtual Service Academy informational webinar for Maryland students. Parents and students had the opportunity to hear from representatives of the U.S. Service Academies and discuss the application and nomination process with Congressman Trone. Attendees heard from Dr. Felisa Lewis from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, 2nd Lieutenant Wes Mehl from the U.S. Naval Academy, Mr. Steve Blust from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 2nd Lieutenant Jake Koehnke from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Mr. Patrick McCarthy from Senator Van Hollen’s Office, and one of Congressman Trone’s 2021 nominees for the Air Force Academy Seda Tsnari.

“Nominating Maryland students to attend our nation’s Service Academies is one of the most meaningful parts of my job as a Member of Congress. There is nothing I enjoy more than working with our state’s most talented students to help them succeed during this process,” said Congressman Trone. “Young people who attend a Service Academy receive an excellent education and follow in the footsteps of brave and courageous Americans who have worn the uniform of the United States military. I encourage all eligible Maryland students to explore the Service Academies as an option for your future.”

Congressman Trone is the son of a WWII veteran and has grown up with an appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our nation’s servicemembers. As a member of the Veteran Affairs Committee, he will never stop advocating for better health care and benefits for our veterans.

A replay of the webinar can be found here.

Congressman David Trone was elected to the House of Representatives in November 2018 to serve the 6th District of Maryland, which includes all or part of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. Trone serves on the Appropriations, Veterans’ Affairs, and Joint Economic Committees in the 117th Congress and previously served on the Education and Labor and Foreign Affairs Committees. In Congress, Trone is fighting to make progress on issues that matter to Marylanders, including the mental health and addiction crises, criminal justice reform, and funding for medical research.
