Maryland Congressional Delegation Announces Nearly $8 Million to Strengthen COVID-19 Health Literacy and Language Services

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David Trone, along with U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, and Jamie Raskin (all D-Md.) today announced $7,939,842 in COVID-19 relief funding to expand access to community-based health services in Baltimore City and Frederick County.

“This new round of federal COVID-19 funding will help improve the dissemination of public health information in minority communities,” the lawmakers said. “We will continue working to secure additional resources to strengthen public health and keep our communities safe.”

The award comes from the Office of Public Health and Science and Office of Minority Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act. It includes:

  • $4,000,000 for the Baltimore City Health Department
  • $3,939,842 for the City of Frederick

Funding will raise awareness on the best ways to curb the spread of COVID-19, bolster COVID-19 vaccination efforts and strengthen guidance for general public health measures in vulnerable communities.
